4
THE CITY OF
pL~E~S~4NTONo CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
1
April 15, 2008
Assistant City Manager
TITLE: APPROVAL OF RECYCLING MEASURES ESTABLISHED BY THE
ALAMEDA COUNTY WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY FOR RECEIPT
OF WASTE IMPORT MITIGATION FUNDING
SUMMARY
The Alameda County Waste Management Authority has imposed measures that must
be met by its members for receipt of future annual Waste Import Mitigation funding. This
report outlines the measures and recommends those to be approved by the City
Council.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Approve the attached resolution establishing a goal of 75% reduction of waste going
to landfills by 2010 in accordance with the countywide 75% waste reduction goal.
(Attachment 2)
2. Approve the attached resolution establishing Bay-Friendly landscaping requirements
for City funded projects including traditional public works projects and public-private
partnerships (Attachment 3).
3. Approve the attached letter from the City Manager to the Alameda County Waste
Management Authority clarifying that the City will be certifying all City covered
projects through the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). (Attachment 4)
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The specific financial impact of the recommended actions is dependent upon the
number and extent of future City capital projects that will be required to meet Bay-
Friendly Landscape guidelines. Because the City already incorporated many Bay-
Friendly type features in its capital projects, the impact is not expected to be significant.
The City will receive approximately $68,000 annually from Waste Import Mitigation
funding.
