THE CITY OF <br />pL£~S~4NTON® CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />1 <br />April 15, 2008 <br />Fire Department <br />TITLE: CONSIDER A RESOLUTION TO APPROVE THE 2008 WEED <br />ABATEMENT PROGRAM AND AUTHORIZING THE ABATEMENT OF <br />WEEDS, RUBBISH, DIRT, OR REFUSE UPON OR IN FRONT OF <br />CERTAIN DESCRIBED PROPERTIES WITHIN THE CITY OF <br />PLEASANTON <br />SUMMARY <br />On March 18, 2008, as part of the 2008 Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department's Weed <br />Abatement Program, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 08-176. Resolution No. <br />08-176 declared that weeds, dirt, rubbish and refuse on specified properties constituted <br />a public nuisance, ordered the abatement thereof, and set a public hearing to hear <br />objections to the proposed abatement. The purpose of this public hearing is for the City <br />Council to hear and consider these objections, if any, and order that the weeds be <br />abated by a contractor. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt the resolution approving the 2008 Weed Abatement Program and authorizing the <br />abatement of weeds, rubbish, dirt, or refuse upon or in front of certain described <br />properties within the City of Pleasanton. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />The weed abatement costs, an administrative fee equal to 100% of the awarded <br />contract to abate the declared nuisance, are recoverable and become a special <br />assessment on the property owner's tax bill. All costs involved with the Weed <br />Abatement Program are budgeted under Account #122-181-3378. <br />
