Vice Mayor Thorne said there is an ordinance having to do with naming parks, and City
Manager Fialho said the difference here is that in exchange for a sizable donation, the City
would make an exception which would be reflected in the resolution that comes forward.
Motion: It was m/s by McGovern/Thorne to direct staff to return with a Proclamation naming the
western segment of the park, Marilyn Kane Trail.
Ayes: Cook-Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, Mayor Hosterman
Noes: None
Absent: None
Abstain: None
Vice Mayor Thorne reported on his attendance to the National League of Cities conference and
said the Nations City Weekly provides an excellent summary of everything which occurred. He
also believes another issue would be block grants for cities involved in energy conservation, and
hopefully the City could look forward to funding.
Mayor Hosterman reported three Councilmembers attended the Local Government Commission
Conference. Councilmember Cook-Kallio said there were some extremely interesting ways of
how some Councils look at things and she learned a lot.
Councilmember Sullivan said the conference is great, it primarily focuses on energy, water,
climate change and there are many great ideas and information-sharing.
Councilmember McGovern said she is working with the Tri-Valley Adolescent Health Initiative
with Maria Lara. They recently established an ad-hoc group, and one of the sections of the
master plan is called Healthy Kids and Families. The choice the group is working on is mental
health for youth and she and others visited a group in Fremont last week where mental health
interns come into the schools and have done a gap analysis in services. They are now looking
at what could be done to fill some needs of youth, and their next meeting is next Thursday from
4-6 p.m. in which goals will be reviewed.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Diaz
City Clerk
City Council Minutes 9 March 18, 2008
