connection with future approvals necessary for development of <br />the Project site have mitigated or will mitigate the geology, <br />soil, and seismic impacts of the Project to a level o'f <br />insignificance. <br />D. Vegetation And Wildlife Habitat. <br />1. Facts. <br />The Project and subsequent development of the Project <br />site would alter the vegetation and wildlife habitat on the <br />Project site. The EIR indicates at pages 40 and 41 that the <br />Project and subsequent development of the Project site would <br />eliminate most or all of the grassland vegetation in the <br />pasture areas located on the Project site and alter and reduce <br />the available habitat for wildlife species. These changes <br />would reduce the number of small mammals on the Project site, <br />reduce potential foraging area for raptors, such as the <br />redtailed hawk, and provide a different type of habitat that <br />would be utilized mainly by other types of birds. The DEIR <br />indicates on page 41 that heritage trees, such as oaks, <br />eucalyptus, and walnuts, scattered throughout the Project site <br />will be lost unless they are protected and integrated into the <br />site plan. <br />The DEIR indicates at page 41 that the proposed <br />realignment of Foothill Road would require removal of five or <br />more heritage oak trees along the Swale southeast of the Alviso <br />Adobe, but that proposed greenways at the entrance of Foothill <br />Road would preserve other heritage oak trees. <br />9 <br />
