CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 87-174 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF AB 1608 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, due to the increasing problems of unsafe commercial <br /> vehicles creating a hazard to the motoring public, more <br /> enforcement is necessary; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, AB 1608 would allow greater flexibility for the removal <br /> of unsafe commercial vehicles from local streets and <br /> highways by giving authority to municipal police <br /> officers and county sheriffs' officers, when California <br /> Highway Patrol Officers are unable to respond in a <br /> timely manner; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of Pleasanton feel this measure is <br /> absolutely critical in enhancing the safety of our <br /> roadways and would result in a reduction of serious <br /> truck accidents which heretofore have plagued cities <br /> across the State; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: The City Council of the City of Pleasanton hereby <br /> endorses passage of AB 1608, a copy of which is attached <br /> hereto and incorporated herein by this reference. <br /> <br />Section 2: The City Manager is directed to send a copy of this <br /> resolution to Governor Deukmejian, Senator Bill Lockyer <br /> and Assemblyman Bill Baker. <br /> <br />Section 3: This resolution shall become effective immediately <br /> upon its passage and adoption. <br /> <br />THIS RESOLUTION ADOPTED MAY 5, 1987 BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmembers - Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Wilson and Mayor <br /> Mercer <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />ATTEST: -- <br /> K ~"R. ~ERCER, MAYOR N~ <br /> <br /> .e~Y'D~' M~&Donald, City ttoPn~y <br /> <br /> <br />
