opportunities of need or areas to collaborate between cities. In addition, the formation
of a Health Action Team (HAT) to develop the Health Action Plan (HAP) was introduced
as the planning and development phase of the TVAHI.
Subsequent to the January 24 meeting, the gap analysis was completed, the data was
synthesized and existing city/community services were paired in each city with one of
the four strategies. Steering committee members met to evaluate the synthesized gap
analysis and identified Issue II as the area with the most need. As a result, the Steering
Committee recommended that the HAT develop the following strategies within Issue II:
A. Develop site-based counseling, support
families, school staff and community tc
provide support and referral.
groups and education programs for youth,
identify mental health warning signs and
B. Establish a youth suicide prevention and early intervention strategy to improve early
identification, early intervention, referral and support for youth at-risk of suicide and
their families.
C. Provide family support groups and one-to-one parent mentoring to enhance child-
adult communication and relationships by partnering with community service
providers.
D. Provide 40 developmental asset trainings at schools and community to help parents
promote positive youth development.
CONCLUSION
Through the Youth Master Plan, the YMPIC has made Healthy Youth and Families one
of its focus areas. The TVAHI and the YMPIC have parallel interests in youth health and
wellness and in ensuring appropriate mental health resources are available for
Pleasanton youth and families. To improve coordination, the YMPIC has formed an Ad-
hoc Committee that has been meeting regularly to become apprised of the mental
health services and needs in Pleasanton. The Ad-hoc committee members will also
participate in with the HAT to develop the strategies of Issue II.
Finally, the TVAHI recommendations will be submitted to the Pleasanton School
District/City of Pleasanton Liaison Committee for ratification and the recommendations
will be integrated into the Youth Master Plan as part of the Youth Master Plan Update.
Resp ctf II ~ ubmitted,
Nel o ialho
City Manager
Attachments:
A: Gap Analysis
B: Youth Mater Plan &
~~
Jo M.
