CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION NO. 87-152

A RESOLUTION URGING THE STATE TO MAINTAIN LOCAL
EDUCATIONAL FUNDING EQUAL TO THE NATIONAL AVERAGE PER
PUPIL

RECITALS

A. Our Governor has supported education during his past
years as Governor.

B. Unfortunately, the proposed 1987-88 educational
budget represents-a major shift in state policy by reducing the
average per pupil expenditure to $189 less than the national
average.

C. The children of Pleasanton would be particularly
impacted by budget cuts because Pleasanton Elementary School
District funding from the state is the lowest per pupil in
Alameda County.

D. With the proposed budget, districts within our city
will not be able to maintain their current programs.

E. The education of the children of Pleasanton are a
top priority with this City Council and the people of Pleasanton.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1: The City Council requests the Governor and
Legislature to revise the 1987-88 state budget to
provide school funding per pupil equal to the national
average, an increase of only $189 per pupil.

Section 2: As a longer term goal, our state should strive to
have above average and even exemplary education.

Section 3: This resolution shall become effective immediately
upon its passage and adoption.
