Cit'y of Pleasanton ,STAFF N REPORT April 7, 1987 HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL Pleasanton, California Approval of Budget Amendment to Provide Improved Temporat3[ office/support Facility For Pleasanton Tennis and Community Park Attachment: A) Letter from Chamber of Commerce Honorable Mayor and City Council: Pleasanton Tennis and Community Park has just been completed, has been in scheduled use since March 2, 1987, and will be formally dedicated April 26, 1987. While it is too soon to evaluate the level of use the park will sustain over a period of time, it is evident that the facility is attracting many users. Not only is the tennis complex being maximized, the four sand and grass volleyball courts and childrens' play area are in heavy use. The first phase development of Pleasanton Tennis and Community Park did not include the support building planned for the park. The park master plan includes a 2600 sq. ft. building housing an office, small meeting/social room, restroom with showers, and child care room. The cost of that facility is estimated to be $260,000. The management plan for the park includes use of portable restrooms and a portable support building until the next phase of the park is built. The estimated cost of completing the park is $2,000,000. The project is not funded at this time. Presently, an office/support facility, a 8' X 24' Scotsman trailer, has been located within a chain link fence next to the parking lot. The cost per month for the trailer is $175.00. In addition, two portable toilets are located adjacent to the trailer. Portable toilets cost $65 per month each. The total annual rental cost for the trailer and restroom is $3,606. It has become readily apparent that the present arrangement is not suitable for a long period of time. Staff cannot operate the program in a business like manner due to office crowding, and difficulty in managing and storing equipment and supplies.
