The City is also considering the installation of a PV system with the adaptive reuse
of the Firehouse Arts Center project. Staff is exploring this opportunity with the
architect and obtaining cost estimates for the installation.
In addition, the City is considering the feasibility of installing a photovoltaic system at
the City's Operations Service Center (OSC). An evaluation of city facilities
concluded that the OSC was the best candidate for a PV system that would meet the
minimum size criteria (200kW) for a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA.) Energy
Solutions of Oakland has preformed a detailed study of the site and recommends
that the City explore the PPA or leasing options to finance the proposed 203 kW
system. We anticipate bringing this matter back to the City Council later this year.
CONCLUSION
In summary, staff will begin work on creating the branding material for the Solar Cities
program, developing the Starter Kit and website, and arranging for public workshops to
educate the community on the benefits of solar energy. Once the program geared
towards existing residential consumers is fully operational, staff will provide Council with
a status report and recommendations on the program. The anticipated date for this
update is in the fall of 2008.
Submitted by:
Fiscal Review:
Approved by:
` ~ ~._
ie Yuan- David P.
