I n s <br />~L£~S~NTONo <br />February 5, 2008 <br />City Manager <br />TITLE: APPROVAL OF CITY-SCHOOL DISTRICT LIAISON COMMITTEE <br />GOALS FOR 2008 <br />SUMMARY <br />Each year, the City of Pleasanton-Pleasanton Unified School District Liaison Committee <br />establishes focus areas to guide its efforts for the year. The focus areas are then <br />presented to the City Council and Board of Trustees for review and approval. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />The Council is asked to approve the 2008 goals for the City of Pleasanton-Pleasanton <br />Unified School District Liaison Committee. <br />BACKGROUND <br />At its December 20, 2007 meeting, the Liaison Committee developed its proposed focus <br />areas for 2008, which are submitted herewith for the Council's consideration. <br />Youth Services <br />This focus area is a catch-all category for the myriad of City, District and <br />community youth services, programs and activities of interest to the Committee. <br />Keeping updated on the work of the City's Youth Commission and the community <br />Youth Master Plan Implementation Committee are also included under this <br />heading. <br />School & Community Safety <br />The School Resource Officer program stands as a very successful example of <br />how the City and District jointly benefit by a shared commitment to improving <br />safety on our school campuses. The Committee is constantly looking for ways to <br />expand on the concept behind this program. <br />Transportation <br />The Committee continues to review issues being considered by the City's Traffic <br />Committee as they affect Pleasanton schools. <br />6 <br />CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />Character Education <br />The Committee has watched the Community of Character concept evolve, <br />blossom and spread not only throughout Pleasanton, but in surrounding <br />
