DRAFT 3. Circulation Element <br />truck-climbing lanes through Pigeon Pass near I-680 as well as widen the northern section to four <br />lanes. Pleasanton supports the widening of State Route 84 from two to four lanes between I-680 and <br />I-580. This improvement will alleviate cut-through traffic in Pleasanton and congestion on I-580. <br />Local Roadway Network <br />Table 3-1, above, lists Aarterials serving the Pleasanton Planning Area. Seven of the arterials provide <br />access to the freeway system via an interchange. Five of these interchanges are fully signalized. See <br />Figure 3-2 for the locations of all signalized and future signalized intersections. , <br />> > <br />., ,] 1~..,.1 .. <br />In addition to the interchanges, access to and from the City of Pleasanton circulation network can be <br />gained from eight arterials providing a system with multiple and distributed access points. Vehicles use <br />this network of arterials to access the collector streets which provide access to homes and businesses <br />on the local street network. <br />Existing Roadway Standards <br />The City of Pleasanton has adopted numerous roadway standards and requirements to protect the <br />safety and welfare of its citizens. Public streets within the city limits are constructed and maintained to <br />City standards.} Most City streets feature at least 11~-foot=wide travel lanes, curbs, gutters, and <br />sidewalks. Where <br />traffic conditions warrant and sufficient rights-of--way exists, the City installs traffic signals, stop signs, <br />pedestrian crosswalks, and bicycle lanes. Exceptions to City standards include older streets which were <br />built prior to modern road standards; and streets where the °° ---'-~~'- rights-of--way are <br />insufficient for roadway improvements, <br />Pleasanton also has standards for Wig-acceptable levels of traffic congestion ~~1 <br />;~~....,,....~~~,. ~..~..:a.. ~c ~~... ,~~__.~~~._.~ ........within the city.
