<br />The majority ~f the requested increase is due to additional
<br />contract plan checking and inspection services ($207,000) for
<br />which fees have already been collected or will be collected;
<br />which is partially offset by salary savings of $35,000 in the
<br />Engineering Department due to vacancies. Also included is
<br />$65,292 for the required purchase and installation of parts and
<br />equipment to duplicate the present Police radio system for use of
<br />a new primary radio channel; which is partially offset by salary
<br />savings due to vacancies in the Police Department ($76,835).

<br />Other recommended adjustments include emergency landscape and
<br />walkway repairs to Kottinger Park for erosion control ($18,000);
<br />irrigation system repairs ($6F250); Fire Department overtime due
<br />to injuries and providing fire protection at the fair ($12,600);
<br />contract attorney fees for litigation ($11,500); City Council
<br />retreat ($13,000); vehicle maintenance and equipment repairs in
<br />the Parks and Streets Departments ($10,800); and additional
<br />Street Department field supplies needed primarily for asphalt
<br />patching and base repairs ($20,000).
