II. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The applicants request a conditional use permit to retain their existing four (4) young chickens
(hens). The hens are approximately 10 months old. The approval of the conditional use permit
would allow four (4) chickens to be kept in the rear yard of their property. Please refer to
"Exhibit A," the attached site plan. The applicant has indicated that the pullets are intended as
domestic pets with a side benefit of producing four (4) fresh eggs per day for most of the year
(winter months are difficult for egg production). The keeping of chickens also helps with
garden maintenance, as they eat insects and help to control weeds. Additionally, a mixture of
straw and chicken manure is ideal for garden compost. The applicants are not intending on
additional chicks and are not interested in housing roosters.
One (1) of the four (4) chickens (hens)
kept on site
III. The site is bordered by large residential
lots (ranging in size from 10,000 to 17,000 square-feet). The proposed chicken coop encumbers
less than one percent (<1%) of the rear yard area and is approximately 9 feet from the nearest
property line, which contain dense vegetation.
IV.
