1. The spacing of continuous ties shall not exceed 40 feet. Added chords of
diaphragms may be used to form sub-diaphragms to transmit the anchorage forces to
the main continuous crossties.
2. The maximum diaphragm shear used to determine the depth of the sub-diaphragm
shall not exceed 75% of the maximum diaphragm shear.
1614.1.7 ASCE 7, Section 12.12.3. Replace ASCE 7 Section 12.12.3 as follows:
12.12.3 Minimum Building Separation. All structures shall be separated from adjoining
structures. Separations shall allow for the maximum inelastic response displacement
01v1. ONt shall be determined at critical locations with consideration for both
translational and torsional displacements of the structure as follows:
~ = C a S m~ (Equation 16-45)
M max
Where b max is the calculated maximum displacement at Level x as define in ASCE 7
Section 12.8.4.3.
Adjacent buildings on the same property shall be separated by at least a distance o m T,
where 0 mT =~ (om~ )2 • (Om 2 )2 ~1/2 (Equation 16-46)
and em 1 and om2 are the maximum inelastic response displacements of the adjacent
buildings.
Where a structure adjoins a property line not common to a public way, the structure
shall also be set back from the property line by at least the displacement, .M, of that
structure.
Exception: Smaller separations or property line setbacks shall be permitted when
justified by rational analyses.
1614.1.8 ASCE 7, 12.12.4. Modify ASCE 7 Section 12.12.4 to read as follows:
12.12.4 Deformation Compatibility for Seismic Design Category D through F. For
structures assigned to Seismic Design Category D, E, or F, every structural component
not included in the seismic force-resisting system in the direction under consideration
shall be designed to be adequate for the gravity load effects and the seismic forces
resulting from displacement to the design story drift (^) as determined in accordance
with Section 12.8.6 (see also Section 12.12.1).
Exception: Reinforced concrete frame members not designed as part of the seismic
force-resisting system shall comply with Section 21.9 of ACI 318.
s~
