APPROVED as to materials, types of construction, equipment and systems, refers to <br />approval by the Building and Safety Official. The Building and Safety Official may <br />require an investigation and tests conducted by technical or scientific organizations at <br />the permittees expense, or by reason of accepted principles or tests by recognized <br />authorities, technical or scientific organizations. <br />APPROVED AGENCY is an established and recognized agency regularly engaged in <br />conducting tests or furnishing inspection services, when the agency has been approved <br />by the Building and Safety Official. <br />BUILDING is a structure used or intended for supporting or sheltering a use or <br />occupancy. <br />BUILDING CODE is the California Building Code as adopted by this jurisdiction. <br />BUILDING, EXISTING is a building erected prior to the adoption of this code, or one for <br />which a legal building permit has been issued. <br />BUILDING AND SAFETY OFFICIAL is the officer or other designated authority <br />charged with the administration and enforcement of the technical codes, or a <br />regularly authorized deputy. Where there is a reference in any of the technical <br />codes to the "Building Official" or "Authority Having Jurisdiction" it shall mean the <br />Building and Safety Official or in the absence of the Building and Safety Official, <br />the interim, temporary or acting Building and Safety Official. <br />BUILDING and/or Property SERVICE EQUIPMENT refers to the plumbing, mechanical, <br />electrical and elevator equipment including piping, wiring, fixtures and other accessories <br />which provide sanitation, lighting, heating, ventilation, cooling, refrigeration, fire-fighting <br />and transportation facilities essential to the occupancy of the building or structure for its <br />designated use. <br />ELECTRICAL CODE is the California Electrical Code promulgated as adopted by the <br />City of Pleasanton. <br />ELEVATOR CODE is the safety code for elevators, dumb- waiters, escalators and <br />moving walks as adopted by the City of Pleasanton. <br />IBC STANDARDS are those standards published in of the California Reference Code <br />as adopted by the City of Pleasanton. <br />JURISDICTION as used in this code, is the City of Pleasanton which adopts this code <br />for administrative regulations within its area of authority. <br />io <br />
