CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 87-47 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION ON THE 1996 SUMMER OLYMPICS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Secretary General of the United States Olumpic Com- <br /> mittee has initiated an inquiry to determine whether <br /> the City and County of San Francisco is interested in <br /> hosting the 1996 Summer Olympics; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor of San Francisco has asked ABAG's Executive <br /> Board to assess the proposal that hosting the 1996 Sum- <br /> mer Olympic Games be considered on a regional basis; <br /> and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay Area enjoys a temporate climate <br /> well-suited to international athletic competition and <br /> geographically encompasses a number of fine athletic <br /> facilities suitable for Olympic sites; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Area can provide numerous and appropriate ac- <br /> commodations to support visiting athletics and specta- <br /> tors; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the 1996 Summer Olympic Games would bring significant <br /> revenues to the Bay Area and its local economies, as <br /> well as extensive international recognition, without <br /> expending taxpayer funds. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOL- <br />VES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> That the City of Pleasanton, State of California hereby <br /> expresses to the Mayor of San Francisco, and to the San <br /> Francisco Bay Area Organizing Committee for the 1996 <br /> Games, its firm support for the concept of hosting both <br /> a Sports Festival prior to the Olympics and the Summer <br /> Olympic Games on a regional basis in 1996 or as soon as <br /> possible thereafter. <br /> <br />THIS RESOLUTION ADOPTED ON FEBRUARY 3, 1987 BY THE FOLLOWING <br />VOTE: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Wilson, and Mayor Mercer <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br />ABSTAIN: None ~~~~i~ <br /> ~ERCER, MAYOR <br /> <br /> <br />
