City of Pleasanton 2.0 City of Pleasanton Information and Staples Ranch Land Use Designation <br />Final Water Supply Assessment <br />Stoneridge Drive Specific Plan Amendment and Staples Ranch Project <br />3.0 City of Pleasanton Information and Staples Ranch Land <br />Use Designation <br />This section describes background information, land use planning for Alameda County, and the City <br />of Pleasanton. <br />3.1 City of Pleasanton Population and Community <br />As of January 1, 2001, the City of Pleasanton supported a population of 67,282 and provided 59,727 <br />jobs within its corporate limits.2 Pleasanton enjoys a diverse economy with a balanced mix of <br />residential, retail, office, and light manufacturing uses. <br />3.2 Local Land Use Designations <br />3.2.1 Existing General Plan Land Use and Zoning Designations <br />The Staples Ranch site is designated by the Alameda County General Plan for Mixed Use and <br />Business Park Uses, and by the City of Pleasanton for a variety of uses, including Medium Density <br />Residential; High Density Residential; Parks and Recreation; and Retail/Highway/Service <br />Commercial, Business and Professional Offices. The City's existing general plan land use <br />designations for the Staples Ranch site would allow the proposed uses, so that a General Plan <br />amendment would not be required under the proposed project. <br />Approximately 122.5 acres of the Staples Ranch site is currently zoned by Alameda County for <br />agriculture, and is not yet zoned by the City of Pleasanton, and the 1.5 acres of the Staples Ranch <br />site that are in the City of Pleasanton are zoned Planned Unit Development-Medium Density <br />Residential. <br />2002 City of Pleasanton Urban Water Management Plan, page 2-2. <br />P:\Projecta - WP OnIy141162.01 Staples Rench WSA\FinahFinal WSA.doc 3-1 <br />
