CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 87-505 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION SUPPORTING TAX EXEMPTION FOR EMPLOYER <br /> PROVIDED TRANSPORTATION BENEFITS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Representative Barbara Kennelly has introduced a bill to <br /> correct an inequity in the 1984 Tax Reform Act which <br /> was incorporated into the 1986 Internal Revenue Code; <br /> and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the denial of the exemption for employer-provided <br /> transportation benefits is inconsistent with <br /> governmental efforts to encourage and, in some <br /> instances, require employers to implement programs to <br /> reduce traffic congestion; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton wishes to join other agencies <br /> through out California working at the federal and state <br /> level to reinstate tax exemptions and benefits, such <br /> agencies include MTC, RIDES, Commuter Transportation <br /> Services, and the Southern California Association of <br /> Governments; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1: The City Council of the City of Pleasanton hereby <br /> supports the legislation introduced by Representative <br /> Barbara Kennelly to reinstate tax exemptions for <br /> employer provided transportation benefits. <br /> <br /> Section 2: This resolution shall become effective immediately <br /> upon its passage and adoption. <br /> <br /> THIS RESOLUTION ADOPTED NOVEMBER 17, 1987 BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: <br /> <br /> AYES: Councilmembers - Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Wilson, and <br /> Mayor Mercer <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: None ~ ~ <br /> ABSTAIN: None <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> ~N~NET~ R ~ MERCER, MAYOR <br />~.'Walker, City Clerk <br />Peeer D~ MicDona~d,:~i~y ~tt~rney <br /> <br /> <br />
