//' City of Pleasanton
STAFF , J4N
REPORT
November 17, 1987
City Manager

SUBJECT: Approval of Budget for Convention and Visitors
Bureau

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

The staff recommends approval of the Budget
and Action Plan submitted by the Chamber of
Commerce Convention and Visitor Bureau Task
Force.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the Council:

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND

The Council included in the approved 1987-88 operating budget,
$100,000 to fund a Convention and Visitors Bureau, beginning in
January of 1987. Prior to actually receiving the funds, the
Chamber of Commerce was to submit a proposed budget and an action
plan for implementation of the bureau.

The budget prepared by the Chamber of Commerce covered a full
year of operation and totaled $236,000, of which $18,000 would be
funded by the Chamber. The City would be responsible for funding
$218,000 on an annual basis, assuming a full year of operation.
The Chamber has asked that the City Council approve the $100,000
expenditure so that they can begin recruitment of the executive
manager. The Chamber asks that the Council approve the budget
and fund one-sixth (1/6) of the $100,000 or $16,667 each month,
starting in January.

SR87:507
