The purpose of the
study is to identify the causes of the signs of distress that are evident at
the site and to develop recommendations regarding measures that can be
undertaken to alleviate the current problems and to minimize future distress.

The Pleasanton Sports Park is located in north-central Pleasanton, east of
Hopyard Road between Parkside Drive and Blackbird Way. The park is a
multi-use facility containing softball fields, soccer fields, picnic areas,
parking lots, and other recreational facilities. In the past several months,
several cracks have opened up in the parking lots, in the roadways, and in
one of the softbaH fields; and a large area in one of the parking lots has
subsided. The cracks are up to several inches wide and appear to extend as
deep as 6 to 10 feet.

The first objective of the proposed study will be to determine the cause(s) of
the observed distress, to quantify the magnitude of the present problem, and
to quantify the potential magnitude of the problem if it is left unchecked.
This appears to be an involved and complex situation with no readily apparent
cause for the distress to the affected areas. We, therefore propose to
conduct a phased operation.

An open channel of communication with the City will be required during this
study because it may become apparent that the scope of work needs to

5167 Johnson Drive · Pleasanton · California · 94566 · (415)463-0844

MAIN OFFICE: 1900 Embarcader0 Road , Suite200 · PaloAIto · California · 94303 · (415)856,6750
