CA 94566 <br />(415) 463-3500 <br /> <br /> Fitness evaluations are an attractive employee benefit that can help <br /> maintain a healthy workforce. Firefighters receive information about <br /> their current health and fitness and a personalized action plan for <br /> improvement and maintenance. A team of professionals, including a <br /> physican, exercise physiologist, registered physical therapist, and <br /> medical technician customarily perform the evaluation. <br /> <br /> The evaluation has the following unique components: <br /> <br /> MEDICAL HISTORY/PHYSICAL EXAM. A record of past illnesses and <br /> current lifestyle habits to assess hereditary and environmental <br /> ~isk factors. Physical findings identify current health status <br /> for clearance in fitness testing and exercise participation. <br /> <br /> BLOOD SAMPLE. A laboratory test to assess heart, liver and <br /> kidney function and to measure cholesterol levels (HDL/LDL also). <br /> <br /> LUNG FUNCTION TESTING. A measurement of the size and elasiticity <br /> of the lungs to determine lung function and screen for disease. <br /> <br /> RESTING ECG. A measurement of the heart's electrical activity to <br /> identify possible cardiovascular disease. A baseline to compare <br /> with the heart at work. <br /> <br /> JOINT MOBILITY. Range of motion of all major joints to identify <br /> joint suseptibility to injury. <br /> <br /> FLEXIBILITY AND STRENGTH TESTING. Well documented tests of upper <br /> body, leg and back strength and flexibility. <br /> <br /> SUBMAXIMAL AEROBIC POWER. Fitness testing on a bicycle ergometer <br /> to submaximal efforts to moniter changes in fitness levels. <br /> <br /> BODY COMPOSITION. (Skinfold and Underwater Weighing). A measurement <br /> of the percentage of body fat and lean mass determining ideal body <br /> weight and fat loss goals. <br /> <br /> MAXIMUM STRESS TEST (Treadmill Test).
