BACKGROUND
Use of the tennis courts at Pleasanton Middle School has been limited due to surface
cracking as a result of unusually expansive sub-soils and lack of court lighting. With the
support of the Pleasanton Unified School District, the City Council directed staff to
upgrade the courts in an effort to expand opportunities for public play.
Vintage Contractors, Inc. of San Francisco was awarded the construction project on
June 6, 2007, and began work immediately following the school's summer recess. The
contractor completed the work within the allowed construction time, despite aone-week
delay due to an unforeseen field condition. The tennis courts, which are open to the
public after regular school and summer recess, re-opened for public use on August 15,
2007, and have been well-received by the District and the public alike.
The lighting system for the courts has been added to the City's standing maintenance
contract with Vista Universal Lighting, and will be managed in the same manner as the
tennis courts at Pleasanton Tennis and Community Park.
Submitted by:
J es W.
