added that the neighbors were noticed and their comments were addressed. No neighbors
have contacted staff since the revised letter was sent out.

PDR-615, Jane Jamieson/Pleasanton Presbyterian Church

Commissioner Pearce requested information on the height increase of the light poles.
Ms. Decker stated that when the project came before the Commission, there were two
examples for this condition of approval: one was concerning the height of the light poles,
and the second was more restrictive at 10.5 feet. She recalled that in determining which
condition to apply, the Commission indicated that it wanted lighting standards with
lighting calculations and a determined number of footcandles. She explained that it was
never really considered how this restrictive condition would fit in the parking lot, and
staff eventually determined that 10.5-foot high light standards would be infeasible
because it would require many more light poles to meet the number of footcandles and
calculations. She stated that she visited the site and surrounding area and talked to
Ms. Pamela Hardy of the next-door Ironwood development; she agreed with the applicant
that an increased number of light standards would have a negative visual impact, and
having a 16-foot pole on a three-foot pedestal would require less light poles and provide
space for the proposed tree landscaping. She added that the bulb wattage would also be
reduced and the actual bulbs would be changed from mercury vapor to high-pressure
sodium to soften the lighting.

9.
