MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC 18. Commended Safety Valet Students of the Year Lisa Adamos and Officers Bolan and Horgan recognized and presented commendations to th 7, 5 grade students as Safety Valets, as well as an adult volunteer who supervises his school’s program. Additional officers recognized for their involvement with the program included Doug Jones, Glen Cornell, Aaron Ackerman, and John Blanchard. 19. Proclaimed June 2007 as Scleroderma Awareness Month Councilmember Sullivan read the proclamation and presented it to Jerry Hill of the th Pleasanton Lion’s Club. Mr. Hill said this was the 78 year of the Lion’s Club participation, said monies support many things throughout the community 20. Leadership Pleasanton Class Joyce Shapiro, Leadership Pleasanton Program Coordinator, discussed goals of the program, graduate involvement in boards, commissions, and local government. She said the 2007 graduating class raised $2,000 though its raffle activities and introduced graduates Roy Cook, Robert Half International and Father Ron Colmer from St. Claire’s Episcopal Church who presented checks in the amount of $325 each to Carol Beddome of Open Heart Kitchen, Nancy Brum of Keystone Learning Center to be used to purchase bus passes for their clients. 21. Public Comment Heather Truro thanked the Council for reconsidering and re-evaluating facts and merits or lack thereof for the Home Depot project. Ronald Marovich, said he was disappointed in the delay of the Home Depot item, felt the right decision had been made and construction should begin immediately. Kathy Dowding thanked Councilmember Sullivan for the moment of silence, said 96 American soldiers have died in the last three weeks, felt now was the time for Pleasanton to ends its silence and read the names, ages and state of residence of those passing soldiers. Howard Neely felt the Council studies things too much and supported the Home Depot. Bob Dees expressed concern about Alisal Street at Happy Valley and felt the road could not handle the traffic, cited significant safety problems, speeding, accidents, and deaths of pets. He suggested the installation of sign to slow people down. Mayor Hosterman suggested an education campaign be started for golfers and those in the neighborhood. City Manager Fialho said he was sorry to hear of the situation, said staff would continue traffic enforcement and they could look at the public information campaign as a start in solving the problem.
