MINUTES <br />CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />February 20, 2007 <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Mayor Hosterman called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance <br />led by Councilmember Thorne. <br />Introductory Comments: <br />Councilmember Thorne noted the Pleasanton Senior Center will be hosting a welcome <br />reception, Wednesday, February 215', from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. He further noted the City's <br />Teen & Youth Program will be holding the 5`h Annual Youth Music Festival at the Amador <br />Theater on Friday, February 23`d, at 8 p.m. <br />Councilmember Thorne commented on the Civic Arts which is bringing the Russian American <br />Kids Circus to the Amador Theater on Wednesday, February 28"', at 7:30 p.m. He continued by <br />adding the Pleasanton Unified School District, the Pleasanton Police Department, the Alameda <br />County Office of Education and Amador Valley Adult Community Education are presenting a <br />town hall meeting to start a conversation about adolescent drinking, drug and tobacco use. The <br />town hall meeting will be held on Thursday, March 29"' from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the <br />Amador Valley High School Library. <br />Councilmember Thorne announced on February 5"', the Pleasanton Community of Character <br />Committee will host free workshops for business and community leaders. The workshop title "It <br />Takes Everybody to Build a Community of Character" will be offered on February 26"' and April <br />23'd, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Amador Valley High School Library. <br />In conclusion, Councilmember Thorne noted that in the future when he does opening <br />comments, he will introduce the community to an American Soldier. <br />Roll Call: <br />Present: Councilmembers Cook-Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, Mayor Hosterman <br />Absent: None <br />AGENDA AMENDMENTS <br />Mayor Hosterman noted that Item No. 12, Home DepoURegency Centers public hearing has <br />been removed from the agenda at the request of the applicant. <br />Regarding Item No. 14, the planned discussion regarding a forum on the Iraq War, Mayor <br />Hosterman requested Council support in tabling this item until sometime in the future. <br />The Mayor noted at the January 16"' Council meeting, the Council reached consensus to <br />explore a community forum on the war in Iraq. However, when Council reached consensus to <br />agendize the item, the Council envisioned a respectful discourse about the war in Iraq in some <br />type of community forum not held in the Council Chambers. The Council believed this forum to <br />be a valuable community resource addressing how to deal with war as it affects the community, <br />the citizens and the troops. She noted the Council is proud of the men and women who <br />represent this community in the armed services and pray everyday for the safe return of those in <br />Iraq. She indicated given the comments the Council has already received, it appears that with <br />or without a community forum on this issue, the community is already divided. She noted what <br />
