Mr. Sullivan believed this might be the reason he is hearing concern expressed because some
of the residents have asked that tennis or basketball courts be included in the plans. He noted that
these requests and comments are being recorded and when the matter comes back to the Council for
consideration, Council will have the benefit of all of these comments.

Mr. Rasmussen informed Council that he has the motions that each of the four Commissions
made, and some of the Commissions did request additional tennis courts on this site. Council will
receive the recommendations from each of the Commissions and a summary report from the Town
Hall meeting, and at that point, Council can take whatever action it chooses.

Mr. Sullivan believed the message needed to be made clear to the community that just
because the five site plan alternatives and the two alternatives for the future Bernal Community Park
have not changed from one meeting to the next, does not mean that the ideas as presented are not
being ignored by the City.

Mr. Fialho said that staff is pursuing a design building element for the Bernal Community Park,
which includes Phase I construction. Phase I construction is specific to the two lighted sports fields,
one casual ball field and some ancillary uses. All other potential uses that are part of the 318-acre
City-owned portion of the Bernal property and the Community Park is what the community can
influence in terms of ultimate use.

It was moved by Mr. Brozosky, seconded by Mr. Sullivan, to approve Amendment No. 1
to the consultant agreement with Rasmussen Planning, Inc., dated December 1, 2004, for
assistance in the preparation of the Draft Bernal Property Phase II Specific Plan and the
processing of the Bernal Community Park Phase I PUD plans, and to authorize the City
Manager to execute Amendment No. 1 to the consultant agreement.

The roll call vote was taken as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Brozosky, McGovern, Sullivan, and
Mayor Hosterman
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

7. MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL

Mr. Brozosky referred to the Town of Danville's "Operation Welcome Home" Program where
the Council recognizes returning Danville military men and women in appreciation for their
commitment for service to our nation. He requested Council to consider honoring returning
Pleasanton military men and women with a commendation in appreciation for their commitment for
service to our nation.

Mayor Hosterman noted that Pleasanton has a program in place that is similar to the Town of
Danville's and Chris Miller, an active veteran in the community, has been coordinating this program.

Mr. Fialho said that Pleasanton military men and women are currently being recognized by
way of commendation or proclamation, which is the distinction with the Town of Danville's program.

Ms. McGovern supported formally recognizing Pleasanton military men and women with a
proclamation in appreciation for their commitment for service to our nation.

Pleasanton City Council 25 04/05/05
Minutes
