Mr. Brozosky did not believe spending $95,000 for signage was a wise use of
taxpayers' money. He believed that the current interior signage is adequate. There is
no need to light up the City Hall complex at night, as there is not much business that is
conducted during this time. Due to internal changes and moving staff from one location
to another, change orders would have already occurred which will be at an additional
cost to the City.

Mr. Fialho pointed out that the monument; exterior and interior signs are
designed in a way to accommodate changes.

Mr. Bocian noted that the interior signs would need to be changed out to
accommodate any internal changes in staffing, The larger exterior signs would only
require removing and replacing a panel to accommodate the changes.

In response to an inquiry by Mr. Brozosky, Mr. Bocian said that all deliveries are
delivered to 157 Main Street. He noted that the campus directory signs are helpful to
assist the public with identifying service and office areas and conference rooms. The
consultant felt that this program was still undersigning the City Hall complex. Staff
believed that this signage program is adequate.

Ms, Hosterman believed this is a customer service issue. If the City had a civic
center complex that was located in one place it would be easier for the public to identify
service and office areas. She did not believe the project costs were out of bounds for
the type of signage that is being considered. The only problem she would have with the
civic center signage would be if the City were considering erecting a new civic center in
the near future. She said she would support the motion.

Mr. Brozosky pointed out that this signage program does not address the location
of City offices throughout town.

Ms. Ayala would support reducing the signage program if there were a substitute
motion.

A substitute motion was made by Ms. Ayela, seconded by Mr. Brozosky, to
include the exterior and interior signage and eliminate the ground-mounted
illumination directory signs.

The roil call vote wes taken on the substitute motion as follows:

AYES:
NOES:
ABSENT:
ABSTAIN:

Councilmember Ayala
Councilmembers - Brozosky, Campbell, Hosterman, and Mayor Pico
None
None

The roll call vote was taken on the oriqinal motion as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Campbell, Hosterman, and Mayor Pico
NOES: Councilmembers - Ayala and Brozosky
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Pleasanton City Council 4 11/02/04
Minutes
