Craig Sjoberg, 5000 Pleasanton Avenue, said he is a pilot and has been flying in
and out of the Livermore Municipal Airport for eighteen years. He did not understand
how the proposed expansion would double the increase of flights over the next sixteen
years. He pointed out that there is clearance to the north side of the Livermore Municipal
Airport. He believed the City needed to take responsibility for how things came together.
The Livermore Municipal Airport has been in operation for many years and it is a safe
airport. As a pilot, he wanted to fly into an airport that provide adequate clearance and
that was safe to fly into. He suggested that the Livermore Municipal Airport place a sign
at the end of the taxiway that instructed pilots to practice noise abatement procedures. He
pointed out that people who buy their homes next to a municipal airport choose to do so.
He mentioned that there is no lead in jet fuel and there are no commercial air carriers, as
they are prohibited from the Livermore Municipal Airport. He did not understand the
basis for the projected increase in jet flights from 2,220 (year 2001) to 18,500 (year
2020). Because a homebuyer is required to sign an acknowledgement form before
purchasing a house that is in the direct flight path of the airport, the homebuyer and the
Livermore Municipal Airport and its pilots should work to be good neighbors.

Andre Berthet, 1103 Autumn Court, believed the Livermore Municipal Airport
was a good asset to the community. He believed the airport generates business for the
Pleasanton community, and without the airport, these businesses would not exist. He
believed there was some misunderstanding as to what the Livermore Municipal Airport
Master Plan is proposing, particularly with the extension of the smaller runway, which is
an advantage to a pilot. He believed the pilots should make an effort to be good
neighbors to the residents that are in the direct flight path of the airport. He asked
Council take into consideration the pilots' viewpoints before making its decision.

Jane Berthet, 1103 Autumn Court, mentioned that she is a pilot and noted that the
Livermore Municipal Airport has been in operation with its first runway since the 1920s.
The airport has not increased or been enhanced in over 20 years. The Th-Valley area has
tripled in size over the past 20 years. Up until now, the Livermore Municipal Airport has
been able to safely accommodate pilots and air traffic in and out of the Tri-Valley area.
The proposal by the Livermore Municipal Airport is a response to the condition in the
Tri-Vailey area as a result of it tripling in size over the past 20 years. She pointed out
that many of the corporate business base its headquarters in Pleasanton because of the
community, and because of the proximity of the safe Municipal Airport located in
Livermore. She also believed there was some misunderstanding as to what the Livermore
Municipal Airport Master Plan is proposing, as well as the operation of the airport and
the landing traffic patterns. Since September 11, she believed there is a fear of general
aviation. The location of the Livermore Municipal Airport is important because if there
was an emergency situation where the community needed protection, this airport could
accommodate it. She asked Council and the community to be realistic in its approach and
not let its fears dominate its decisions.

Pleasanton City Council 17 04/06/04
Minutes
