MINUTES <br /> OF THE <br /> MEETING <br /> OF THE <br />PLEASANTON CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />September 2, 2003 <br /> <br />6:00 P.M. CLOSED SESSION <br /> <br /> Conference with legal counsel regarding pending litigation (Signature Properties, <br />et al. v. Pleasanton Unified School District) <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br /> The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order by Mayor Top Pico at <br />7:11 p.m. <br /> <br />Boy Scout Troop g460 led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ayala addressed the audience and asked them to think about some local <br />issues that are coming up. She mentioned that the General Plan Review process is just <br />beginning. She invited all of the citizens of Pleasanton to participate in this process in <br />order for the final product to reflect the community. She encouraged everyone to watch <br />the newspapers in the coming months for the Town Hall Meeting announcements. <br />Information will also be available on the City website. In addition, she expressed her <br />concerns about the condition of the worker's compensation program in Califomia and <br />cited some figures that Costco had advertised to their customers. She expressed her <br />concerns about decisions that are made today and the long-term burden it might be <br />placing on future generations. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pico expressed his condolences and those of the City of Pleasanton to the <br />family of Dr. Edward Schlies, a pediatrician who practiced in the community for over 40 <br />years. He commended his dedication to families and youth in the Valley, estimating that <br />he treated over 10,000 babies and children during his 40-year career. Sympathy was <br />expressed to his wife, children and grandchildren. <br /> <br />2. ROLLCALL <br /> <br /> Deputy City Clerk Marsha Schmiegel called the roll, which is recorded as <br />follows: Councilmembers present were Kay Ayala, Steve Brozosky, Matt Campbell, <br />Jennifer Hosterman, and Mayor Tom Pico.
