They noted
some of their accomplishments while on the respective Commissions.

The City Clerk administered the oath of office to newly appointed Commission and
Committee members: Mark Wooldridgg - Economic Vitality Committee; David Stark and Rex
Whisnand, Housing Commission; Julie Testa, Carol Sparks, Art Tenbrink and Laura Olson -
Human Services Commission; Christine Bourg - Library Commission; Jerry Pentin - Parks and
Recreation Commission; and Libby Kolar, Caitlin MacDonald, Priya Shankar, Matthew
Tarswell, Scott Tucker, Joel Detweiler and Lauren Russman - Youth Commission; and Philip
Manwell and Linda Rhodes - Th-Valley Community Television Board of Directors.

Councilmember Brozosky presented a commendation to the Foothill High School Choir.
The male quartet from the choir performed a song, which was very warmly received.

A presentation was made to the outgoing Poet Laureate Jim Ott, who introduced the
newly appointed Poet Laureate Kirk Ridgeway. Mr. Ridgeway presented a poem he had written
about the goals ora poet laureate.

Mayor Pico noted the presence of Boy Scout Troop 943.

Other Speakers

Ann Fox, 2866 Garden Creek Circle, referred to the proposal for Zone 7 to take over
Lake I in the chain of lakes in the quarry area. Zone 7 proposes to start a project in June, which
will include an access road to the quarry right next to Mohr Elementary School. The
neighborhood had never envisioned this and believed the access road would extend from E1
Charro. The planned water level will be at 230-330 feet elevation with the road five feet above
the maximum level. The plan also includes removal of 105 trees, including 60 heritage trees.
She asked Council, the School District and Zone 7 to work together to develop better alternatives
to save the neighborhood and to preserve the safety of the children at Mohr Elementary. She
urged Councilmembers to attend the Zone 7 Board Meeting tomorrow to discuss this. The Zone
7 Board does not appear to be heeding the concerns of the residents and is proceeding with the
project.

Pleasanton City Council 5 05/20/03
Minutes
