Kwon, Katherine Langer, Meena Paik, Jeremy Poryes, Medha Rishi, Jessica Rogers, Laura
Rombach, Ashley Schoch, Kristina Scrivner, Biran Shan, Garima Yagnik, and Cindy Juarez,
Teacher. Principal Kevin Johnson assisted in the presentation and expressed his pride in the
students.

Commendations were presented to the following students from Amador Valley High
School Civics Class: Samantha Beatts, DJ Clovis, Elizabeth Crisostomo, Katie D'Adamo,
Eugenic Du, Simon Fung, Anna Harris, Laura Hart, Kim Hendricks, Mariya Kuperschmidt,
Allison Leung, Meghan Marks, Cheryl Oldaker, Arshia Randhawa, Alex Sharp, Kassandra Ter
Beck, Aimee Theron, Becky Voetsch, Lia Wrightsmith, Richard Wu, and Matthew Campbell,
Teacher.

Eugenic Du indicated this class had taught her many public speaking skills and given her
confidence. She noted the Civics class has given the students the skills to be good citizens and to
know their civic duties. She thanked Mr. Campbell and the City for the support.

A presentation was made to Verla Becker, Senior Center Volunteer of the Year. Ms.
Becker thanked Council for the wonderful Senior Center and its support of the seniors in the
community.

A presentation was made recognizing Kottinger Place on its 30th anniversary. Jean
Moms, Millie Worden and Kathy Bogges accepted the commendation.

Other Speakers

Jerry Wagner, 6344 Alisal Street, indicated concerns about use of the well on the
Wentworth property by the Ferma Company during construction of the golf course. He said
most Happy Valley wells are on a separate aquifer and not recharged by Zone 7. They depend
on rainwater for recharging. He again noted the possible contamination of their wells from
pesticides and recycled water from the golf course. He commented about the bypass road and
felt Summerhill backed out of its development plans because of the difficulty of building the
bypass road under existing soils conditions. Much soil will have to be removed and if the golf
course is built before the bypass road, it will he extremely expensive to haul the dirt from the
road construction away from the site. He noted it was not until close to the annexation vote that
the residents were informed that the road might not be built. He felt if there had been a real
intention to build the road the environmental permits would have been obtained at the same time
as those for the golf course. He felt the City is the developer of the golf course and should be
responsible for putting in the road, not Mr. Spotorno or his developer.

Kevin Close, 871 Sycamore Road, said in September 2002 a study was started regarding
the bypass road. In January 2003, that was referred to Mr. Spotomo and his developer. He
asked for the status of that study and if there had been any meetings regarding the road.

Chris Miller, 663 Romeo Court, thanked the City of Pleasanton for its support of the
troops during the Iraqi conflict by displaying American flags and the yellow flags with the names

Pleasanton City Council 5 05/06/03
Minutes
