MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE PLEASANTON CITY COUNCIL February 18, 2003 6:30 CLOSED SESSION A closed session was held at 6:30 p.m. to confer with legal counsel regarding pending litigation (City of Pleasanton v. State Regional Water Quality Control board, et al.) 1. CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order by Mayor Tom Pico at 7:05 p.m. Councilmember Hosterman led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. She informed the public that the City of Pleasanton and Dublin San Ramon Services District are working together to try to remove mercury contamination from the water. There is a program to bring in old mercury thermometers and trade them for a new digital thermometer. She said there may be disagreement on how to solve global conflict, but there is one issue all can agree on. Oil and gas resources are finite and the sooner people can reduce their consumption of oil and natural gas, the brighter the future will be. She supported cars with cleaner fuel, more energy efficient light bulbs and increased use of solar power. Citizens can be proud that Council and staff have tackled the energy issues and that the City has become a State leader in developing an energy plan. At this meeting, Council will ratify the final appointments to the Pleasanton Energy Committee, which will take action to move the city and region toward a future of more energy efficiency using known forms of energy conservation and examining alternatives for possible implementation. The healthiest response to the energy crisis is to take action at home. 2. ROLL CALL City Clerk Peggy Ezidro called the roll, which is recorded as follows: Councilmembers present were Kay Ayala, Steve Brozosky, Matt Campbell, Jennifer Hosterman, and Mayor Tom Pico. Staff members present were: Deborah McKeehan, City Manager; Michael Roush, City Attorney; Robert Wilson, Director of Public Works; and Jeff Knowles, Deputy Director/Transportation.
