MINUTES <br /> OF THE <br /> MEETING <br /> OF THE <br />PLEASANTON CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />October 15, 2002 <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br /> The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order by Mayor Tom Pico at 7:03 <br />p.m. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Dennis led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. She indicated she <br />had attended a meeting of the Alameda County Waste Management Authority and while there <br />she heard complimentary remarks about Pleasanton's Food Waste Pilot Program and the fact that <br />31% of those eligible are participating in the program. She described the program and the <br />monitoring procedures. Approximately 55% of residential waste is eompostable and food scraps <br />are the single largest component. The City would divert an additional 1,157 tons each year if the <br />program were expanded city-wide. The Waste Management Authority offers a subsidy to <br />introduce food scraps recycling programs to residents for purchase of pails, brochures and labels <br />or other media to get the message out. The target materials are food scraps and contaminated <br />paper, such as pizza boxes and ice cream containers. Residents are encouraged to put the food <br />scrap containers in the green waste container. <br /> <br />2. ROLL CALL <br /> <br /> City Clerk Peggy Ezidro called the roll, which is recorded as follows: Couneilmembers <br />present were Kay Ayala, Matt Campbell, Becky Dennis, Sharrell Michelotti and Mayor Tom <br />Pico. Staffmembers present were: Deborah MeKeehan, City Manager; Michael Roush, City <br />Attorney; Brian Swift, Director of Planning and Community Development; Sue Rossi, Director <br />of Finance; and Tim Neal, Police Chief.. <br /> <br />3.
