MINUTES
OF THE
SPECIAL MEETING AND WORKSHOP
OF THE
PLEASANTON CITY COUNCIL

August 22, 2002

CALL TO ORDER - PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The special meeting and workshop of the City Council was called to order by Mayor
Tom Pico at 6:38 p.m.

Mayor Pico led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance.

ROLLCALL

City Clerk Peggy Ezidro called the roll, which is recorded as follows: Councilmembers
present were Kay Ayala, Matt Campbell, Sharrell Michelotti, and Mayor Tom Pico. Staff
members present were: Deborah McKeehan, City Manager; Michael Roush, City Attorney;
Brian Swift, Director of Planning and Community Development; and Jeff Knowles, Deputy
Director/Transportation.

1. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Patricia Belding, 7703 Highland Oaks Drive, representing Citizens for a Caring
Community, complained about telephone calls and a letter threatening a lawsuit by the
proponents of Measure V unless her committee retracts statements made in its argument against
Measure V. She said she felt the statements were valid and that the letter was an effort to
intimidate her cause. That is not in keeping with a democratic form of government. She said her
group is not intimidated and believe in what was stated in the ballot argument. If there is a
lawsuit, she felt comfortable that her group would be vindicated. She was distressed with these
tactics and felt them unworthy of this city, which has been working hard to create a community
of character. It can only result in delaying tactics for the election and would not promote the
welfare of seniors and special needs people.

Ms. Ayala asked for an update on this from the City Attorney.

Pleasanton City Council
Special Meeting Minutes

08/22/02
