Ingrid Wetmore, 3276 Melanie Circle, said when she bought her house she was told the
Zone 7 arroyo was the only thing that would be behind her house and that was why they bought
the house so they could enjoy privacy. She referred to the video of the Folsom trail and said that
has no resemblance to the Pleasanton trail. She asked Council to consider their request.

Carolyn Jacobe, 3287 Cheryl Circle, said her biggest concern was security. She asked
how the trail would be patrolled and what assurances there are that even if they have an eight
foot fence that trash would not be thrown over it or kids would loiter and smoke as they currently
do under the bridges. That is a big issue for her. She said many neighbors no longer attend
meetings because this has been going on for many years and they feel they are not being listened
to. She requested Council to work with the neighborhood and consider their views.

Larry Kriegbaum, 3225 Clifford Circle, urged Council to consider putting the trail on the
north side. He reiterated the comments of Peter MacDonald.

Lynn Kfiegbaum, 3225 Cliflbrd Circle, said the trail issue has been discussed for over ten
years. It's time to put it to rest. She wanted the trail on the north side. The plan did not state the
trail would be on either side but merely that a trail would be opened on the arroyo and the goal
was to have a trail that enhances traffic and access to the Business Park. She did not think a trail
on the south side of the arroyo would benefit anyone in the Business Park. They can't get there.
A trail on the north side would provide a transportation avenue to the Business Park and to the
schools on that side. Lastly, if it is Council's choice to put it on the south side, it is the City's
responsibility to mitigate the impact on the Parkside residents. It is disheartening for her to
attend meeting after meeting and hear the trails people, who come from out of town, pleading for
the use of her back yard.

Ms. Michelotti said there had been an attempt years ago to have a bridge over to the
Sports Park at each phase of the Parkside area development. Unfortunately, that plan was not
implemented.

Tom Walker, 3255 Clifford Circle, asked for Council support of the mitigations outlined
by Mr. MacDonald.

Randy Born, 3241 Curtis Circle, indicated he bought his property because of the quiet in
the area. He did not think he could stop the trails, but would prefer that it go on the north side.
When he comes home from work, he enjoys watching the wildlife in the arroyo area. He was
concerned about the impact of the trail on the wildlife. He said in October there was a fire at his
fence line and he described the losses on his property. He believed the fire was caused by
someone on the other side of his fence smoking and dropping ashes. He was concerned about
security. He reiterated his desire to have the trail on the north side.

James Durkee, 596 Berger Court, said he was in favor of trails and affordable housing.
He rode the Iron Horse Trail in the Danville area. There was no graffiti, no trash, no apparent
problems. He said many people put their bikes in their cars and drive to places where they can
ride them. It shouldn't be that way. He thought the trails are woefully neglected in Pleasanton.

Pleasanton City Council 18
Minutes

04/16/02
