5. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> <br />Presentations <br /> <br /> Loft Werhane, Boardmember and Marketing/PR Co-chair of Valley Children's Museum, <br />presented an update on the Valley Children's Museum. She described a children's museum as <br />being completely interactive and hands-on for children to learn about various subjects. A <br />commitment has been made for a 20,000 sq. fl. building in the San Ramon Community Center <br />development. They hope to open in two to three years. She referred to the traveling educational <br />display currently in the Pleasanton Library. A committee has been formed to create an interim <br />site for the museum and possibly a museum on wheels to take to elementary schools. They <br />would also like to have a 3-5,000 sq. tt. storefront. They will continue to participate in various <br />community events to promote the museum and raise awareness. She stressed the fact that <br />although the physical location is in San Ramon, this will be a regional facility that will benefit <br />children within a 25 miles radius. She announced a forthcoming event on March 23, 2002 at the <br />Blackhawk Museum. She said they need help in raising awareness of the group and asked for <br />the City to provide a link to them on its website, and to provide information in the recreation <br />guides and at the Library. <br /> <br />Ms. Dennis suggested she also contact the Chamber of Commerce for a web link. <br /> <br />Ms. McKeehan suggested adding this item on a future agenda for the Th-Valley Council. <br /> <br /> Jim Ott, Poet Laureate, introduced Daniel Wessel and Jillian Selee, two students from <br />Mohr Elementary School, who read a poem. A copy is attached to the Minutes. <br /> <br />Other Speakers <br /> <br /> Jack Hovingh, 4250 Muirwood Drive, referred to the recent death of Joe DeTata, a retired <br />police officer and Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Pleasanton. He asked Council to <br />establish an award in his memory for other police officers who are selected by their peers. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti thanked him for bringing this up. She commended Mr. DeTata and <br />extended condolences and sympathy to his family. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pico thanked the young people who had participated in Youth in Government Day <br />and excused them from the dais. <br /> <br />Pleasanton City Council 5 03/05/02 <br />Minutes <br /> <br /> <br />
