Ms. McKeehan indicated she is in regular contact with San Francisco, but nothing
has happened as yet.

Ms. Ayala referred to the energy issues raised by Mr. Sullivan and said she did
not want more government agencies being created, but did support having a workshop to
discuss the ideas. She agreed the cities and counties need to be more proactive.

Ms. McKeehan indicated this is scheduled for the next agenda and Council can
also discuss this at the priorities workshop.

Mayor Pico preferred that there be some kind of workshop before going to the
priorities workshop.

Ms. Dennis felt this was such a complex issue that she wanted to make certain all
facets are discussed.

Ms. Michelotti agreed with Ms. Dennis.

Mayor Pico suggested adding a discussion at the next Council meeting of having
a workshop on this issue and possible dates. He believed there are things that can be
done before next summer as a City and community to help reduce the level of power
consumption.

Ms. McKeehan felt this is one of those issues that is evolving as time goes on.
The original request of the Planning Commission was to form a City energy policy. That
is really different than the kinds of things being discussed now. The energy crisis was
not at the same level earlier. It is necessary to develop a scope of work for staff, which is
what Council usually does at the priorities workshop. Staff will define the issues in the
next staff report and then Council can decide what it wants to pursue.

An unidentified speaker asked if a Pleasanton representative was going to attend
the hearing on the Calpine application for a new power plant, or is Council opposed to
new power. He believed the new plant was necessary to serve the many new homes to be
built. Conservation will not provide enough extra power.

Ms. McKeehan indicated there is nothing pending at this time.

8. CITY COUNCIL CALENDAR

CLOSED SESSION

There was none.

Pleasanton City Council 22 02/06/01
Minutes
