In addition, an item <br />was added under meeting open to the public, to present a commendation to the <br />Pleasanton Weekly on its first anniversary. <br /> <br /> Captain Mike Frasier briefly reviewed the new School Resource Officers Program <br />and introduced the two newly appointed Resource Officers, Brian Laurence and Scott <br />Rohovit. Officer Laurence pointed out that this is a proactive program and not a response <br />to a crisis. Both officers briefly described their backgrounds and expressed their <br />enthusiasm for this program. <br /> <br />4. CONSENTCALENDAR <br /> <br />Item 4k <br /> <br /> Nelson Fialho presented the staff report regarding the Pleasanton Unified School <br />District's Character Education Program. <br /> <br /> Rich Puppione, Director of Pupil Services, Pleasanton Unified School District, <br />thanked Council for the wonderful School Resource Officers. The purpose of the <br />program is to build a community of character, not just to teach the students, but to have <br />adults model the expected behaviors. These "expected behaviors" were the top six <br />selected from information gathered from over a thousand survey answers, half of which <br />were from the City's website. <br /> <br />Item 41 <br /> <br /> Scott Baker presented the staff report regarding the reduction of electricity use at <br />City facilities. <br /> <br /> Ms. McKeehan pointed out that after deregulation, the City became part of a <br />program with the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) to purchase gas and <br />electricity at rates 5-7% lower than in the past. Those rates are locked in for the next <br />year. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti indicated drivers need to exercise extra caution at intersections <br />when a blackout occurs. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ayala indicated the proposed resolution indicated the City will reduce power <br />consumption by 7% and encouraged the community to do its part to reduce power usage. <br />She asked staff to indicated what household items used the most power. <br /> <br /> Mr. Baker said lighting was probably the best place to conserve power. He <br />encouraged people to turn off lights when leaving rooms and to change to fluorescent <br />lighting. In addition, turning down the thermostat is helpful.
