MINUTES
OF THE
MEETING
OF THE
PLEASANTON CITY COUNCIL

June 20, 2000

1. CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order by Vice Mayor Pico
at 7:03 p.m.

Councilmember Dennis led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. She noted
the summer months had begun and congratulated all recent graduates from Amador High
School Foothill High School and Village High School. She also welcomed the
participants in the 2000 Far West Regional Soccer Championships to Pleasanton and to
the City's sports fields. She also acknowledged the recent sudden death of Bruce Brown
on June 6, 2000. He was a valued community member. had actively served on the West
Las Positas Conmatmity Advisory Commitlee and had allended every meeting for the last
three years, contributing a significant amotmt of personal time and effort to the study.
Condolences were expressed to his wife Joyce, daughter Pare and sons, Bruce and Gary.
in memory of Mr. Bmwn, the West Las Positas Community Advisory Committee has
decided to dedicate the report of the Committee to hixn.

Ms, Michelotti noted that Pleasanton's Northern California Boys U-13 and U-16
United Ballistic Soccer champion teams had won their games on Monday.
Congratulations were extended to both teams and best of luck extended for their
upcoming matches. Pleasanton is very proud of these young athletes.

Ms. Acosta announced that the City had received a very special award liom the
Alameda County Tobacco Control Coalition. Many years ago the City was one of the
first cities in the area to assertively establish a "no snloking" rule in local restaurants and
bars. Council felt that this role projected healthy environment standards for Pleasanton.
The City has been recognized for being the only agency/city in Alameda County that is
100% compliant with all of the roles and regulations. Ms. Acosta extended a thank you
to all of the restaurants and bars that have worked so carefully with Pleasanton over the
years to make sure the City is in complete compliance. Initially there was some concern
as to how this would effect business. It has been found that businesses are even ~nore
successful with this "no smoking" ordinance. Joe DaTata and Rencc Perko received the
special recognition on behalf of the City.

Pleasmitm~ Ci~ Council 1 06/20/00
Minutes
