chulcc and a risk a person decides to take. Children or adults who cannot recognize an
approaching car should be supervised or should not be walking in the street. Drivers who
cannot drive at 25 mph or cannot see a pedestrian, should not be driving. Safety is every
individual 's responsibility. In summary, the residents of Cameron Avenue have agreed to
restricted parking hours. This would meet the needs of the children who utilize the road
during school hours and allow the residents who live on the road to plan events around
the restricted times. Why over-regulate? She asked for a win/win resolution and for
Council to support restricted parking hours on Cameron Avenue.

Melissa Gabrial, 1940 Palmcr Drive, indicated she has a student at Mohr
Elementary and has friends among the Cameron residents. She felt there should be a
compromise to allow the homeowners to have friends visit and park outside their homes.
These are usually not during school hours and she supported limited parking between
Equestrian and Courthey.

A1 Wiemken, P. O. Box 969, Pleasanton. resident on Trenery Drive, indicated he
had been a resident of the area since 1965. At that time~ Trenery Drive was a private
street with no parking and Cameron Drive was also private. Later, the street became a
public street and was widened to 28 feet. There are places on both sides of the street for
pedestrians to move to ira car is coming. Cameron was a 20 fbot private street and there
was never parking allowed on the north side. He read a portion of a letter dated June 25,
1997 from Kelly Cousins describing the street and indicating the narrowness of the street
does not allow room for two cars to pass each other and still provide a safe area for
pedestrians. He said the reason there were no previous objections to the parking proposal
was that some people were not notified of the earlier meetings. That has since been
rectified. He referred to a neighborhood petition to the City Council which objeetod to
sidewalks on Cameron Avenue or other streets in the area. Mr. Wiemken said he drives
on Cameron daily and there are three reasons for designing streets: safety, quality of life,
and engineering. This one does not meet safety regulations. He has put the City on
notice that this street is inadequate lbr children and staff has said the same thing. He
commended Mr. van Gelder and Mr. Lure for their efforts on this issue. He urged
Council not to approve parking on Cameron. He referred to the Lehman property and felt
that if someone were on his property and they were hurt in the uneven and weed infested
area, he would be liable. The same people asking for parking now had rejected it before.
He felt the City had done a wonderful job in that area since 1966 and hoped it would
continue.

It was moved by Ms. Ayala, seconded by Ms. Dennis, to approve parking on
the north side of Cameron between Equestrian and Courtney with restrictions
between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.

Ms. Ayala said she had driven in the area and them are streets more narrow than
Cameron that have parking on them. She agreed the City was over-regulating.

Ms. Dennis felt the neighbors on the street support this and there are restrictions
that will take care of the issue. She felt there will ultimately be a sidewalk on the

Pleasunion City Council 20 05/02/00
Minutes
