existing schools. He believed a school at Del Prado would solve the overcrowding. He did not <br />believe that a church was the most appropriate use of the Del Prado property; only an <br />elementary school would be approp~'iate. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti requested clarification of Mr. Evans' Del Prado scenario. She was <br />informed that Donlon and Walnut Grove student enrollment would be reduced and that the same <br />number of new schools would be needed whether at the Stoneridge site or the Del Prado site. <br /> <br /> Steve DuBose, 5760 Hansen Drive, indicated this problem has been on-going for ten to <br />twenty years and he urged a decision to be made now, whether the land be a school, park, or <br />sold. <br /> <br /> Gary Schwaegerle, 189 W. Angela, asked what was the price of the land and inquired <br />about the zoning of the property. He then discussed traffic impacts of various uses for the <br />property. <br /> <br /> Ms. Acosta indicated if the City chose to buy the land, an appraisal would have to be <br />done. The School District representatives did not volunteer its asking price. <br /> <br /> Robert Reed, 2777 Calle Alegre, indicated his house directly faces the property. He <br />realizes the property will be developed in one way or another. He indicated his choices in order <br />of preference were school, park or church. He was opposed to any kind of high density <br />housing. He believed the land went to the School District from developer fees and the City is <br />responsible for overseeing the developer fees. The purpose of the dedication of land or fees was <br />for a school, not to support the general operating funds of the School District. He believed this <br />gave the City authority of deciding what to do with the land. <br /> <br /> Chuck Eddinger clarified that at the time this land was bought, there were no developer <br />fees in Pleasanton. The School District bought the land out of its general fund; it was not given <br />to them by developers. The Stoneridge site was purchased from developer generated fees. <br /> <br /> Sue Evans, 5610 Paseo Navarro, asked the Council to help preserve the only elementary <br />school site left on the west side of Pleasanton. She did not believe the School District followed <br />the proper process to declare the property surplus. She believed demographic information was <br />not evaluated and accused Superintendent Bill James of sending out misinformation about the <br />site. She urged involvement of the parents to stop the overcrowding of the schools. She <br />objected to the politics involved in the School administration. She believed this is not just a Del <br />Prado issue, but a community issue. She referred to the formation of a group called S.O.S. <br />(Stop Our Overcrowded Schools) and gave a phone number to contact. She urged Council to <br />stop all staff meetings with the School regarding a park next to the Stoneridge site. She <br />reiterated the need for a school at the Del Prado site to stop the overcrowding. She questioned <br />what happened to the funds from the $85 million bond issue.
