COMMUNICATIONS <br />~om Dr. Ray Haskell~ Superin~e~dent of Schools Re: Joint.Study Session <br /> Mr. Fales stated that Dr. Haskell has suggested April 18th or May 20th as dates <br />that the school board can meet with the City Council in Joint Study Session. Mr. <br />Fales was asked to set a date and then inform the City Council. <br /> <br />MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br /> Councilman Reid initiated discussion regarding the proposed increase in postal <br />rates. He suggested that action be taken asking that bulk mailers be required to <br />share more of the financial burden of the postal system. <br /> It was moved by Councilman Reid and seconded by Councilman Rega that Resolution <br />No. 70-71, expressing opposition to the Federal Government of the proposed increase <br />in postal rates and requesting that bulk mailers be required to share more of the <br />financial burden of the postal system, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as fgllows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> The City staff was directed to send copies of this resolution to the League of <br />California Cities, the Mayors Conference, the Board of Supervisors, and to other <br />cities. <br /> <br /> Councilman Reid asked the Council and City staff to study the possibility of <br />encouraging BARTD to consider using Southern Pacific and Western Pacific Railroad <br />tracks to provide commuter service to both the Concord and Warm Springs area. <br /> Mr. Fales explained the bus study now being conducted by BARTD and stated that <br />this might be a feasible solution to the mass transportation problem. <br /> Mr. Fales stated that he would communicate with BARTD regarding this possibility <br /> <br /> Councilman Rega asked Mr. Hirst to check the technicality involved when a <br />Pleasanton resident gives birth to a baby at the Valley Memorial Hospital in <br />Livermore and the birth certificate cites that the child is born in Livermore. <br />Councilman Rega stated that a number of citizens have discussed this with him. <br /> Mr. Hirst stated he would report on this after he has had time to study this. <br /> <br />MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> Mr. Robert E. Lee, 4938 Drywood, called the Council's attention to the fact that <br />San Mateo, who elected not to join the BART District, is being given a grant of <br />some $550,000.00 to conduct a study for a terminal at the San Francisco airport, <br />which is located in San Marco County. <br /> The City Council stated that they were aware of this matter and it had been <br />introduced at both ABAG and the Mayor's Conference. <br /> After some discussion, it was moved by Mayor Gerton and seconded by Councilman <br />Beratlis that Resolution No. 70-72, that the grant being given to San Marco County <br />for a feasibility study for a BART terminal at the San Francisco Airport, be opposed <br />until San Marco County joins the BART District, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> Councilman Beratlis asked Mr. Fales to report on why a BART terminal was con- <br />structed in Daly City. <br /> It was decided that Mr. George Silliman be invited to attend a Council meeting <br />in order to answer a number of questions the Councilmen have regarding BART. <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br /> There being no further business at 9:50 P.M., it was moved by Councilman <br />Beratlis and seconded by Councilman Reid that the meeting be adjourned to meet <br />again in Regular Session at 8:00 P.M., on April 13, 1970. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br /> BERNARD T.
