R_~port of the Recreation and Park Commission ~e: Namin~..gf Fair!ands (T).P~r~ Mr. Fales read the recommendation of the Recreation and Parks Commission to name the Fairlands (T) Park, "Lomita Alta Parkway". After some discussion it was moved by Councilman Spiliotopoulos and seconded by Councilman Beratlis to refer this matter back to the Recreation and Parks Com- mission for further consideration. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton NOES: None ABSENT: Councilman Rega The City Council suggested that perhaps the Recreation and Parks Commission may wish to sponsor a contest to name these and other parks. REPORTS OF THE CITY MANAGER A__D~roval of Plans and Specifications: Call for Bids Re: Construction of Fire Station No. 3~ Santa Rite Road and Lss Positas Blvd. Mr. Pales reported that the final plans for this previously approved bond issue project are now complete and the project is ready for bidding. He reported that the total estimated cost is $168,297,00, with some $13,241.00 in deductible alter- hates included in the bid document. Mr. Jim Hastings, representing Neill Smith and Associates, reported on the architectural plans and estimates and presented a drawing of the proposed fire station. It was moved by Councilman Spiliotopoulos and seconded by Councilman Reid that Resolution No. 70-56, approving the plans and specifications of Fire Station No, 3 on Santa Rite Road and Las Positas Boulevard and calling for bids on April 22, 1970, at 2:00 P.M., be adopted. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Gerton NOES: None ABSENT: Councilman Rega Matters for the Information of the Council Mr. Fales stated that the preliminary program for the Fireman's Muster, sche- duled for June 6, 1970, has been forwarded to the City Council for their informa- tion and review. Mr. Fales announced that the Community Concerns Committee meeting scheduled for March 24, 1970, has been cancelled. Mr. Fales advised the City Council that a revised llst of the General Plan Review Committee has been forwarded. REPORTS OF THE CITY ATTORNEY There were no reports from the City Attorney. COPLMUNICATIONS From Mr. Dick Hunt, President of the Chamber of Commerce Re: Invitation to Chamber of Commerce Meeting Mr. Fales stated that this letter has been forwarded to the City Council for their information. MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL MEMBERS Councilman Spiliotopoulos stated that because of the attendance of the public at the three "Density" meetings, there is evidence that the citizens are interested in all aspects of the City's progress and problems, and suggested that the Council- men and staff consider holding an "open house" meeting a day or two each year in ordcr to acquaint the public with all phases of City operations. Mr. Fales stated that he would place this suggestion on a future agenda for further discussion. Councilman Beratlis once again brought up the matter of the owners of commer- cial establishments within the City not providing adequate refuse containers ~hich is causing litter to be strewn about. Considerable discussion ensued regarding ways and means by which this matter could be controlled.
