Mr. Aiello reviewed the Staff reports and the Planning Commission
Resolution No. 1097, which approved Phase No. 2 of Tract No. 3232,
with some 18 conditions, one of which required wooden roofs on the
dwelling units.

Mr. Jim Belda, representing Singer Housing Company, asked the City
Council to consider changing the requirement of wood roofs to comp-
osition roofs. He explained that in order to keep the cost of the
units within the reach of the moderate and low~income families and
also in order for some of these units to be available for govern-
ment subsidy financing, the cost of installing wood roofs might
prohibit these prospective buyers from being able to purchase these
units.

Mr. Jim Wise, Housing Authority Commissioner, stated that the
Housing Authority has .endorsed the government subsidized program of
Singer Housing Company in Tract No. 3232.

Mr. Ted Lannin asked why composition roofs were being considered
in -this~ second phase~ of~ development when wood shingled roofs were
used in the first phase.

Councilman Gerton stated that good quality composition roofs were
just ~as good as ;wooden ~roofs...as far as durability was concerned
and in-addition~ they were' fire~proof.

Councilman Pearson ~stated that the public has clearly shown a
preferance for shake. cedar roofs.

After'~considerable. discussion !on this subjectm it was moved by
,Councilman Beratlis and seconded by Councilman Gerton that the
public hearing be closed.

The'roll call vot. e was-ias .follows:

AYES: Councilmen.
