Letter from Arlen Gr~ario, Re: Senate Constitutional Amendment 2 <br /> <br /> After discussion on this item, the Council decided not to take any <br /> action on this matter. <br /> <br /> SPECIAL REPORTS <br /> <br /> Presentation b~ Sam Sansone, Pleasanton Liquors, Re: Protection of <br /> small businesses <br /> <br />Mr. Sam Sansone read a letter, signed by nine liquor store owners in <br />Pleasanton, petitioning the Council to protect the interests of the <br />established businesses by carefully considering any requests for add- <br />itional liquor stores in the city. Mr. Sansone stated it is not the <br />province of the City Council to discourage any new businesses from <br />coming into town, but he did feel that the city has some obligation <br />to protect the interests of the established businesses that have <br />labored and paid for the very growth which now threatens to end their <br />existence. <br /> <br />After some discussion on this matter, it was moved by Councilman <br />Gerton and seconded by Councilman Beratlis that the staff investigate <br />the possibility of placing liquor store applications under the cond- <br />itional use classification. <br /> <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Gerton, Pearson, Spiliotopoulos and <br />NOES: None Mayor Reid <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />Memorandum from the Communit~ Concerns Committee Re: Pleasanton <br />Housing Authority Ballot Measure <br /> <br />Mr. Bill Hogan advised the City Council that the Community Concerns <br />Committee, through formal action, unanimously endorsed the Housing <br />Authority's April Ballot Measure requesting authority to construct <br />low-rent housing in the City of Pleasanton. Mr. Hogan stated that <br />the Community Concerns Committee also urges the City Council to <br />publicly endorse this ballot measure. <br /> <br />It was moved by Councilman Gerton and seconded by Councilman Spilio- <br />topoulos that the City Council endorse the Housing Authority low- <br />rent housing ballot measure. <br /> <br />Councilman Pearson commented that he personally did 'not think that <br />this particular elect_ion was ~t~e time for this low-rent housing matter <br />to be discussed. He stated that he felt that this was a decision of <br />the electorate and not to be influenced by the support of any comm- <br />ittee or Council. <br /> <br />After additional discussion, Mayor Reid called for the vote. <br /> <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmen Bera~is, Gerton, Pearson, Spiliotopoulos and <br />NOES: None Mayor Reid <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />REPORTS OF BOARDS.
