SPECIAL REPORTS Presentation b~ Sam Sansone, Pleasanton Liquors, Re: Protection of small businesses Mr. Sam Sansone read a letter, signed by nine liquor store owners in Pleasanton, petitioning the Council to protect the interests of the established businesses by carefully considering any requests for add- itional liquor stores in the city. Mr. Sansone stated it is not the province of the City Council to discourage any new businesses from coming into town, but he did feel that the city has some obligation to protect the interests of the established businesses that have labored and paid for the very growth which now threatens to end their existence. After some discussion on this matter, it was moved by Councilman Gerton and seconded by Councilman Beratlis that the staff investigate the possibility of placing liquor store applications under the cond- itional use classification. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Gerton, Pearson, Spiliotopoulos and NOES: None Mayor Reid ABSENT: None Memorandum from the Communit~ Concerns Committee Re: Pleasanton Housing Authority Ballot Measure Mr. Bill Hogan advised the City Council that the Community Concerns Committee, through formal action, unanimously endorsed the Housing Authority's April Ballot Measure requesting authority to construct low-rent housing in the City of Pleasanton. Mr. Hogan stated that the Community Concerns Committee also urges the City Council to publicly endorse this ballot measure. It was moved by Councilman Gerton and seconded by Councilman Spilio- topoulos that the City Council endorse the Housing Authority low- rent housing ballot measure. Councilman Pearson commented that he personally did 'not think that this particular elect_ion was ~t~e time for this low-rent housing matter to be discussed. He stated that he felt that this was a decision of the electorate and not to be influenced by the support of any comm- ittee or Council. After additional discussion, Mayor Reid called for the vote.
