CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 88-148 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SCHOOL BOND ELECTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a long-range plan has been developed for Pleasanton's <br /> public schools; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this plan shows a need to refurbish aging classrooms and <br /> build new ones in order to house the student population <br /> over the next 20 years; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, many of these needs cannot be paid for with the local <br /> school districts' budgets, nor do they qualify for state <br /> funding; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, quality education is a priority to the citizens of <br /> Pleasanton; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, adequate facilities are essential to a quality <br />instructional program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, estimated costs of completing construction of a new <br /> middle school; expanding existing middle school, two <br /> high schools and three elementary schools; refurbishing <br /> five schools; and replacing transportation facilities <br /> totals approximately $85 million; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: The Pleasanton City Council fully supports the school <br /> bond election to be held on Tuesday, June 7, 1988. <br /> <br />Section 2: The Pleasanton City Council shall assist in informing <br /> community members of the urgent need for this bond <br /> measure; and shall support the citizens' committee <br /> (Planning for Pleasanton Schools) in their campaign to <br /> educate the community that "young minds need room to <br /> grow." <br /> <br />Section'3: This resolution shall become effective immediately <br /> upon its passage and adoption. <br /> <br /> <br />
