Approve Agreement for Installation and Maintenance of Landscapin~ - Valley Crest <br />Landscape <br /> Mr. Scheidig presented his report dated October 5, 1977, regarding this matter. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilmember Herlihy, and seconded by Councilmember LeClaire, <br />that Resolution No. 77-279, authorizing the Mayor to sign the Landscape Agreement <br />with Valley Crest Landscape, Inc., and the City of Pleasanton on behalf of the City <br />of Pleasanton, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Herlihy, LeClaire, Mercer, and Mayor Philcox <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />Authorization to Defend City in Class Action Suit - Dautrich vs.. PERS, et al <br /> Mr. Scheidig presented a verbal report regarding this matter. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilmember Mercer, and seconded by Councilmember Brandes, <br />authorizing the City Attorney to defend the City in the suit of Dautrich vs. <br />PERS, et al. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Herlihy, Mercer, and Mayor Philcox <br />NOES: Councilmember LeClaire <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />MATTERS CONTINUED FOR DECISION <br />City Council Position on Ri.bhts of Employees to Strike (Continued from 9-20-77) <br /> Mr. Brown presented his report dated October 5, 1977, regarding this matter. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilmember LeClaire, and seconded by Councilmember Herlihy, <br />endorsing the League of California Cities policy relative to a State Constitutional <br />amendment initiative which would expressly ban compulsory binding arbitration and <br />the right to strike in the public sector. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Herlihy, LeClaire, Mercer, and Mayor Philcox <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />COMMUNICATIONS <br /> There were no Communications presented at this meeting. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> Councilmembers presented various Committee Reports for the information of <br />the Council. <br /> <br />MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br /> Councilmember Mercer requested the staff to respond to a letter from Brad <br />Hirst regarding Historical Buildings. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Mercer requested staff to check the sign at the Water Bed <br />Store in the Safeway Shopping Center for conformance to the City Ordinance. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Herlihy recommended that City Council oppose Elmer Cooper's <br />request for a transportation position in Washington, D.C., and recommend that <br />his background be checked before being considered for appointment.
