MINUTES <br /> of <br /> THE MEETING <br /> of <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br /> June 11, 1979 <br /> <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> Mayor Frank Brandes, Jr., called the Budget Review Session ofthe City Council <br /> to order at 7:30 P.M. <br /> <br /> ROLL CALL <br /> The roll call is recorded as follows: Councilmembers Butler, Kephart, Mercer, <br /> Wood and Mayor Brandes were present. Mr. Brown, City Manager, Mr. Walker, Assis- <br /> ' <br /> tant to the City Manager, Mr. Hill, Fire Chief, Mr. McCloud, Police Chief, Mr. <br /> Nelson, Police Captain, Mr. Campbell, Director of Public Works and Utilities, Mr. <br /> Schaumburg, Assistant Civil Engineer, and Mr. Levine, City Attorney (8:10 P.M.), <br /> were present. <br /> <br /> HOMEO~FNERS CLEAN UP OF LAndSCAPE AREAS <br /> Mr. Brown announced that the Pleasanton Meadows Homeowners did a fantastic job <br />cleaning up landscape areas over the weekend. City crews worked most of Monday to <br />haul away debris. Mr. Brown noted his appreciation to the homeowners. Council <br />instructed the City Manager to prepare a letter thanking the homeowners on behalf <br />of Council for this generous contribution of work for the betterment of the com- <br />munity. <br /> <br /> 1979-80 CITY OF PLEASANTON BUDGET REVIEW <br /> <br />Overall Review <br /> <br />Fire Department <br /> Mr. Brown discussed briefly how temporary vacancies are covered when injuries <br />occur. Chief Hill presented a detailed report on the sequence of the injuries in <br />the Fire Department and how the situation looks for the immediate future. To date <br />it appears that at least two persons will not return to work and perhaps one more. <br /> <br /> After discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Kephart, and seconded by <br />Councilmember Wood, to have the City Manager prepare a report regarding methods <br />of determining disqualification for medical, the costs and procedures. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Butler, Kephart, Mercer, Wood, and ~{ayor Brandes <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> ;~ter further discussion, it was moved by Mayor Brandes, and seconded by <br />Councilmember Kephart, to add three firefighter positions to the Fire Department. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Kephart, Mercer, Wood, and Mayor Brandes <br />NOES: Councilman Butler <br />AB SE~: None <br /> <br />Utility Charges <br /> In response to previous questions on utility rates, Mr. Walker explained the <br />new estimates for natural gas costs for City buildings and the swim center. He <br />also explained the electrical cost estimates for 1979-80. The total adjustments <br />necessary for gas and electric will require an additional $4,500-$10,000 in sewer. <br /> <br /> <br />
