MINUTES of THE MEETING of THE CITY COUNCIL June 11, 1979 CALL TO ORDER Mayor Frank Brandes, Jr., called the Budget Review Session ofthe City Council to order at 7:30 P.M. ROLL CALL The roll call is recorded as follows: Councilmembers Butler, Kephart, Mercer, Wood and Mayor Brandes were present. Mr. Brown, City Manager, Mr. Walker, Assis- ' tant to the City Manager, Mr. Hill, Fire Chief, Mr. McCloud, Police Chief, Mr. Nelson, Police Captain, Mr. Campbell, Director of Public Works and Utilities, Mr. Schaumburg, Assistant Civil Engineer, and Mr. Levine, City Attorney (8:10 P.M.), were present. HOMEO~FNERS CLEAN UP OF LAndSCAPE AREAS Mr. Brown announced that the Pleasanton Meadows Homeowners did a fantastic job cleaning up landscape areas over the weekend. City crews worked most of Monday to haul away debris. Mr. Brown noted his appreciation to the homeowners. Council instructed the City Manager to prepare a letter thanking the homeowners on behalf of Council for this generous contribution of work for the betterment of the com- munity. 1979-80 CITY OF PLEASANTON BUDGET REVIEW Overall Review Fire Department Mr. Brown discussed briefly how temporary vacancies are covered when injuries occur. Chief Hill presented a detailed report on the sequence of the injuries in the Fire Department and how the situation looks for the immediate future. To date it appears that at least two persons will not return to work and perhaps one more. After discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Kephart, and seconded by Councilmember Wood, to have the City Manager prepare a report regarding methods of determining disqualification for medical, the costs and procedures. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmen Kephart, Mercer, Wood, and Mayor Brandes NOES: Councilman Butler AB SE~: None Utility Charges In response to previous questions on utility rates, Mr. Walker explained the new estimates for natural gas costs for City buildings and the swim center. He also explained the electrical cost estimates for 1979-80. The total adjustments necessary for gas and electric will require an additional $4,500-$10,000 in sewer.
