Adoption of Resolution No. 85-401, approving a data processing needs as- <br /> sessment for the Police Department by Hubbard and Associates in the amount <br /> of $4,900.00. <br />~ The roll call vote was as follows: <br />~' AYES: Councilmembers Mohr, Wood, and Mayor Mercer <br />~ NOES: None <br />~ ABSENT: Councilmembers Brandes and Butler' <br /> ~ MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCILMEMBERS <br /> Councilmember Wood asked if the City is going to landscape around the the <br /> pump at Vineyard and Bernal Avenues. Staff advised this would be done. <br /> Councilmember Mohr stated that with regard to the student 'exchange program <br /> between the City of Pleasanton and its Sister City Tulancingo, Mexico, her <br /> daughter Alison recently spent four weeks visiting in a home in that city. <br /> She then introduced Zelene Alicia Rodriguez Cordero, an exchange student from <br /> Tulancingo who is visiting in the Mohr home. Mayor Mercer welcomed Miss <br /> Cordero to the City of Pleasanton and to the Council meeting. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer requested Council permission to write another letter to Val- <br /> ley Memorial Hospital, since the election of three new Board members, asking <br /> tha~ they state their intentions regarding the construction of a hospital in <br /> Ple~anton. He stated that the previous Board signed an agreement with the <br /> Cit on July 2, 1985, relative to construction schedules for a new facility in <br /> the City. He stated he would like assurance that this agreement will be hon- <br /> ored'by the new Board of Directors of Valley Memorial Hospital. Council <br /> concurred. <br /> <br /> CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> There were no City Council Committee Reports presented at this meeting. <br /> <br /> MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> Mr. Dan Davis, 4122 Nevis Street, stated there is a very dangerous situa- <br /> tion around Alisal School at the cross walk. He advised this crosswalk is <br /> located on a semi-blind corner, and that there is a problem with speeders in <br /> this area. He stated that children have had to actually jump out of the way <br /> of cars. He stated that one way to eliminate this problem would.be to install <br /> a three-way stop sign at Nevis and Wells Street and move the crosswalk to that <br /> territory. He presented a petition. signed by 50 concerns residents in the <br /> area and teachers from Alisal $~hool. which read as Follows: <br /> <br /> "This petition is drawn up for the purpose of eliminating a hazard <br /> and potentionally. deadly situation on Nevis St. in the City of <br /> Pleasanton, Ca. We are requesting: 1) the installation of a three <br /> way stop sign on the corner of Nevis and Wells Streets; and 2) the <br /> moving of the school crosswalk which exists in the first block on a <br /> semi-blind curve to the intersection of Nevis and Wells Streets. <br /> This deadly situation exists because of the irresponsible attitudes <br /> and driving habits of teenagers and adults alike who use this street. <br /> We will not sacrifice our children's safety in this current situation <br /> anymore and request this be done as soon as possible. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer referred this matter to the Director of Public Works and the <br /> Traffic Committee, instructing them to meet with the neighbors to solve this <br /> <br /> 3 - 8-20-85 <br /> <br /> <br />
