225 <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilmember Butler <br /> <br />MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCILMEMBERS <br /> <br />Mayor Brandes stated {hat interviews were held ing to <br />consider candidates for appointment to this board. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilmember Wood, and seconded by Councilmember Mohr, <br />that Resolution No. 86-499, appointing DeWitt Ault as one of Pleasanton's two <br />representatives on the Tri-Valley Television Corporation Board, for a period <br />of two years, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Mercer, Mohr, Wood, and Mayor Brandes <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilmember Butler <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> Councilmember Mercer stated that the meeting with Bruce Herrington of Fal- <br />con Homes, the property owners, and City staff has been rescheduled for Novem- <br />ber 6th. He advised that the City's Building Department has inspected the <br />houses that have construction complaints. <br /> <br />MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> Ms. Karen Fraser-Middleton stated she recently attended a transportation <br />conference in Florida. She advised that Pleasanton's TSM Ordinance was dis- <br />cussed and highly favored as a positive solution to transportation problems <br />facing the nation. She presented an award to the City's Transportation Coor- <br />dinator, Gail Gilpin, from The Association for Commuter Transportation for her <br />outstanding efforts in implementing the Nation's first transportation systems <br />management ordinance in the City of Pleasanton, aimed at reducing commute <br />traffic. Ms. Gilpin thanked Ms. Middleton for bringing her this award, and <br />stated it reflects the positive attitude of the City of Pleasanton. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bob Amick, 5230 Ridgevale Way, and Ms. Helen McNutt, 645 Oak Circle, <br />presented to Council a letter addressed to Dr. Bill James, School Superinten- <br />dent, dated October' 27, 1986, requesting that the school district and the <br />teachers union meet in good faith to negotiate a settlement by November 11, <br />1986. Mr. Amick stated that some parents desire that the deadline for settle- <br />ment be October 30, 1986. He asked Council to endorse the letter as well as <br />lend support in any way possible to get this issue resolved. <br /> <br /> Ms. Helen McNutt stated this problem is not only a school problem, it is a <br />city problem; she suggested all bodies of city government get involved. Mayor <br />Brandes stated that the Council has been extremely supportive of the school <br />district's problems; this is evidenced in the allocation of $4 million for a <br />school and the passage of a school impact fee. <br /> <br /> Mr. Don Summa, 3292 Pomace Court, stated there is unity among parents to <br />bring a settlement to the dispute between the school board and teachers union. <br />He stated the school district stated their willingness to meet with the sec- <br />ondary teachers union but not the elementary teachers. He advised that <br />Pleasanton is being dragged through the mud. He stated that an immediate <br />resolution of this dispute is in the best interests of the City; he urged <br />Council to get involved and request an immediate settlement for both teachers <br />unions. <br /> <br /> - 5 10-28-86 <br /> <br /> <br />
